Federal immigration actions are rapidly expanding, with deadly consequences. The killings of poet Renee Nicole Good and nurse Alex Pretti by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis have brought intense focus on the use of excessive force. An AFT webinar, co-hosted by AFT President Randi Weingarten and AFT Massachusetts President Jessica Tang on Jan. 28, featured experts on immigration and the law. It highlighted AFT resources and showcased how our locals are showing up to minimize fear and trauma.

There are generally 2 types of negotiations that can happen with an employer:

Interim bargaining means that something has changed during the life of the current contract. This can be related to a law change and/or a change in working conditions or the union becomes aware of a change in working conditions, but the full contract has not expired. Generally, interim agreements will roll into the next contract so long as there is no expiration date attached, both parties agree to do so or the law remains in effect that led to the agreement.

Bargaining Sessions Zoom 

Full contract bargaining for 2025-2028 kicked off April 10 and is likely to continue through the summer. 

Our bargaining team met and for several weeks ahead of that date to decide on our platform.
